Do we need Valentine’s Day?
In just two days, the world will celebrate Valentine’s Day, the day you proclaim your love for those special people in your life. In my family, the kids have all done their valentines exchange at school today. The TV is full of advertisements on things to buy for that special someone to show them you love them.
First of all, for me, Valentine’s Day comes with a bit of bittersweet memories. It was my mother’s birthday and this is the fourth year that she is not here for me to call and say happy birthday. It’s amazing how much I still miss her some days, and these are times when I remember some special things about her.
My husband is celebrating our first Valentine’s Day as a married couple, and his first in the States, this week. I’m not sure “celebrating” is the right word as he is working to be sure he “does it right.” The reality is there is no right way. When I look at him every day, I see a man full of love for me, and one who I dearly love, and you know what? Every single day is special. Every single day is Valentine’s Day. We don’t have to have a “day” to show each other that we love each other.
It is my hope for all of you that you take the principle behind this day and make it your life, every day. Be sure to stop and remember why you love the people around you, and then tell them. Don’t wait for a special day to do that. Be sure that you find something every single day and don’t let the opportunity to share it pass you by.
What about it? Do you agree?
