30 Days of Gratitude

Today starts the month of November. It seems hard to believe that we are so close to the holidays and that winter is on the way. It sure is at my house! That crisp morning air has arrived, and it returns as the sun goes down. Speaking of the sun going down, I hope you remembered to change your clocks last night! If not, you’re reading this an hour earlier than you might normally.

I want to spend this month talking about gratitude. It’s a topic I’m passionate about and for several years I have done this 30 Days of Gratitude series. A little history. I don’t do New Year’s resolutions. Each year, I select three words that will be the north star for my life that year. For the last several years, gratitude has been one of those words.

Here’s how this works. Every day for the next 30 days, I will share something I’m grateful for, and I will ask that you do the same. It’s easy to share, just leave a comment and jump in on the conversation. Each day, I’ll ask you to take a minute and think of something for that day that you are grateful for. You’ll be surprised at how it changes your outlook on things! So, let’s get started!

Today I am grateful that I have this outlet to connect with others. I simply love to write. And it is my hope that sometimes that writing actually touches someone. Writing just does something for me. I’ve always loved words and being able to put them to paper (or in this case, the internet) and share something is something I have always enjoyed doing.

In our world today, we are so busy with technology. Sometimes it drives me a little crazy. It seems you cannot have a conversation with people without a cell phone buzzing (because you see, we all turn the ringers off these days) and yep, they just have to stop and see who it is. Try having a dinner conversation with the “younger” generation (although sadly it’s also my generation, and yours, these days). If you get eye contact for more than a few seconds, you’re blessed. And oh my, on that very rare occasion that the phone doesn’t buzz, you might even have a meaningful conversation! I sometimes have a love/hate relationship with technology.

However, it is that technology that allows things like this blog. It’s that technology that will bring these posts right to your inbox (if you subscribe to the mailing list on the right). And it is that technology that lets us connect like this, no matter that we all may live across the country (or even the world) from each other. I have friends and acquaintances from all over, all because of the technology that allows us to connect. For that, I am grateful.

Now, to gratitude. I find when I take the time every day to stop and remember the things I am grateful for, my entire outlook changes. Gratitude is a powerful thing, and I’ll share some examples of that as we go through the month. It can not only change your outlook, but also your situation. So stay tuned!

I hope you will join me on this 30 Days of Gratitude. I very much look forward to hearing your lists of what you are grateful for. So, let’s get started!

I’m asking you to do three things today:

  • Please share this post on your social media pages. Invite your friends to join along with us on this 30 day venture. You can use the share bar to the left of this post to share it on Facebook or Twitter.
  • Consider signing up for my mailing list. I promise I won’t spam you, and by doing this, you won’t miss posts. Life just gets busy sometimes and we don’t remember to go find an article and read it. By doing this, you will receive the posts as they come out!
  • Now the most important thing of all: Share here in the comments what you are thankful for today! I’d love to hear it!

Until tomorrow! Live a life of gratitude.
