Wow, already day five! I don’t know about you, but to me, it seems time just flies by this time of year. The days seem shorter (well, with daylight savings time, I guess they are!), and before you know it, Thanksgiving will be here. In our house, we’re starting to think about the holidays and how we will spend them already, and yet it seems just yesterday we were planning our summer trip to Barbados. Where does the time go?!

Today I am thankful for my porch. We haven’t always had a house that had a front porch. Because I work from home, I find that there are times when it seems I haven’t left the house in days! While that may work, it’s still nice to get outside and get fresh air. A couple of months ago, we moved into a new house. It has a front porch and I”m loving it!

My morning starts with getting a cup of coffee and heading to the porch. I tend to be an early riser, so it’s somewhere between 5 and 6 when I’m first on the porch. In the very early morning hours, our neighborhood is quiet. There are a few birds who may be stopping by the trees across the street for a visit. They tend to be noisy and I can only imagine the conversations they are carrying on with each other. Then we have the early morning dog walkers. You can almost set your clock by these folks. There’s an older couple who walk their dogs, and I always notice when she’s missing. They are most friendly and always say “good morning” or something similar. Mornings are when I tend to sit on the porch and reflect on how awesome my life is and how incredibly blessed I am.

After my coffee is done, it’s time to head in, check email, and get the day started. My next trip to the porch happens around 7:30 or so. I love that time of morning too, because we live across from an elementary school and i get to watch all of the kids coming in for their school day. The street comes alive as parents drop off their kids for school. One of my favorites this time of day is the mom who walks her kids to school, all accompanied by their cat. Yes, the cat walks the kids to school too! The other morning, the cat stayed on my side of the street as the kids went off to the school yard. She was almost crying. We had quite the conversation and she was most unhappy that her kids were leaving her for the day.

I take a few trips to the porch throughout the day. Even as it has started getting cooler, it’s nice to get out in the fresh air, and I do love sitting and watching the activity. Evenings tend to be quiet, and yet an awesome time to sit and watch the sun go down and reflect off of the colorful trees this time of year.

I could not have imagined how much I would enjoy this porch, and yet I sure do. It’s the start of my morning and the end of my day. So, today I am thankful for this front porch, where I get fresh air, say hello to the neighborhood, and spend some time in contemplation. It is indeed a blessing.

Now, over to you! What are YOU thankful for today? I can’t wait to hear!
