And so we enter a new year, 2013. It’s been a long time since I’ve taken the time to write on my personal blog here, and it’s something I have missed. Last year was a rough one with the loss of my grandmother. This year it’s time for new ventures and new opportunities. Part of that is revamping this page and sharing here more often.

In August, I took a job outside of the home, believing it would provide a bit more security for our family. What a whirlwind that has been. It was, of course, a major adjustment to go to an office every day. It was a big adjustment to get back into working with others and remember how much I really didn’t like office politics and the games that often go on in an office. It was also a challenge and one where I found myself constantly questioning how things were applied as it related to HIPAA regulations, something I’ve long been involved with and passionate about. And so, today, I took a bold step to say that’s just not for me. Life is always interesting. Sometimes the decisions that you think will be the most gut wrenching can be the best ones to make and provide the most peace. That’s where I’m at today–it’s a decision that has brought peace in my life. So what now, you might ask? I’m doing some contracting work, and I am working on two major ventures.

My first one is that this will be the year I finish the book I started last year. Two years ago, thanks to a friend, I began reading the books by Karen Kingsbury. She’s a great Christian author and I have thoroughly enjoyed her series of books. What spoke to me as i read that is the Bible verse, Jeremiah 29:11, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” I love that verse and claimed it for my life. Last year I felt drawn to explore the idea of promises that we have in the Bible and how they could apply to our lives today. From that, the new book was born which will be titled Standing on the Promises. While I had great intentions of finishing it last year, life had other plans and with the loss of my grandmother, I found I didn’t write as much. This year will be the year that gets completed and published, and I hope you will join me on that journey!

I also begin a coding program for healthcare professionals with a colleague. That is steadily growing and we have a great group of students who are learning something new and exciting for their future. It’s always fun to be involved in the education process and see others grow and reach their potential.

For those who know me, it’s no secret that I believe our lives are about the stories we create. I also believe we have the opportunity to write our own story by the choices we make. I love hearing people’s stories and learning about what they value in their own lives. Very recently, I was introduced to a new company called South Hill Designs. It is a jewelry company that allows you to create your own individual locket that tells your story, whatever you want that story to be. I loved it so much, I signed up to be one of their “artists.” I’m having a ball helping others design their own personal locket that tells the story they want to share. It is so very rewarding. I’m focused on growing a team for that as well. Someone recently said “like you don’t have enough to do?” My response was simple–this one is pure fun. It’s something away from the computer and it’s something I am enjoying! If you’d like to see more on that, there’s a link at the top of the page. You can also find me on Facebook, where I share many of those ideas for inspiration!

I look forward to this year and what it will bring. I especially look forward to writing more. I am an author and I have missed it. I hope you will share those things with me this year.

How about you? What is 2013 going to be for you?
