What an amazing journey this past few months has been. In January, I did the 500 Words a Day challenge. My intent was to complete my book that I have been working on for the past three years. In addition, I used some of those days to work on my business blog with South Hill Designs. During that time, I was tempted to get side-tracked by accepting a full time job in an industry I had been in previously. The lure of that guaranteed income was tough to resist and so I accepted a new role. While one might think that gives you “breathing room,” all it really does it lead to a sense of complacency. It meant I could do the book, and my business, with a little less fervor than I had planned. I simply had “time” to make things happen. Then that position was eliminated. No warning, no notice, it’s just gone. And while there is a much bigger story to it than that, it’s not worth sharing here. What is important is that none of us should let complacency rule our lives. This morning I ran across this quote by Benjamin Mays:
The tragedy of life is often not in our failure, but rather in our complacency; not in our doing too much, but rather in our doing too little; not in our living above our ability, but rather in our living below our capacities.
I spent the last week completing the editing for my book, Standing on the Promises. I ordered the proof copies. I must admit that as I hit that “finalize” button for this project, my heart skipped a beat. It’s hard to imagine that after four years it is finished. All that would be left is signing off on the proof copy and it will be available for sale. As I reviewed it, I was reminded of all of those amazing promises we are given, things that really do matter in life, and about staying focused on the North Star for my life.
It’s funny how life tends to work. A year ago, I was positive that my calling was to write and to be involved in the business I have with South Hill Designs. Somewhere along the way, I allowed other things to take hold and distract me from those two things. When we do that, we aren’t following this life verse above. There IS a plan for my life. I just need to trust it more.
Today, with a renewed sense of purpose, I am happy to say the book is done and available on Amazon, both in print and for Kindle. I hope you will find it a blessing in your life.
Please consider getting your copy and also leaving a review for me once you have read it. Reviews on Amazon help artists, and I would really love it if you would consider doing that.
Would you please help me spread the word? Just use the share button on the left to share it on your favorite social media site. I would sure appreciate it!
